Tourism numbers looking up in Colorado Springs

Business owners in Colorado Springs are optimistic about tourism numbers this season.

“We’ve had more visitors and sales are up too,” said Amanda Shotts, employee of All About Colorado. “It’s really heartening for me to see so many people from all over the country, and we’ve seen some international customers as well.”

Mondays are the busiest day for the shop, as visitors buy last-minute gifts before leaving town. The owner said he has noticed customers are more willing to spend this year.

Two doors down, at Hunter-Wolff Gallery, business is also looking up.

“Business this summer is somewhat improved over some previous summers, perhaps because we’ve had no fires, and tourism seems to be up a little bit,” owner Sharon Wolff said.

According to the director of communications at the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau, this is shaping up to be a strong year. Consumer confidence and low gas prices are two of the reasons for it.
