Friends Remember Slain Teen in Colorado Springs

are coming forward with their memories as they grieve for their friend.. desmond smith was shot to death early yesterday morning at memorial park. friends sent us this picture of him. they say he attended north middle school in district 11. raymond rogan, junior… raymond rogan, senior… and riccardo kirven were arrested. rogan, junior and kirven face first-degree murder charges. rogan, senior is suspected of being an accessory, and tampering with evidence. krdo newschannel 13’s scott harrison is live at memorial park where police found desmond smith. scott, a memorial friends have started a memorial there. yes… friends and acquaintances of desmond have been adding to it throughout the day. they’re reflecting on a young life lost to violence … and lost far too soon. among this group of classmates visiting desmond smith’s makeshift memorial… is his best friend, sarah hunt. “he was my beast friend. i came in 7th grade and he was the first friend that i had. he stuck by me. he was there to smile, to hug, you know? he was like a brother.” sarah says she hadn’t heard from smith since summer break began. “i started bawling. i was heartbroken.” friends remember him as a good student and athlete. one of the balloons on his memorial, reflects his love of sports. next to that… a black balloon of mourning. “desmond’s friends tell us he lived with his father, and his mother is in the military and was deployed at the time of his death. his friends, as they struggle with desmond’s loss, have many questions. why was he here at the park so late past the 11 p.m. closing time? why was he by himself when he never went anywhere alone? and why are two adults, suspects in his death?” as police remained on the scene, gathering evidence in the case… a mother and her son came to pay their respects. her son played sports with smith. now… pats on the back… and hugs … are what friends need to cope with his death. a candlelight vigil is being planned for smith, friday night at north middle school. live in the springs–scott harrison, krdo newschannel 13. a train scare this afternoon
