UPDATE: First gun tested in camper shooting did not fire deadly shot

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is offering to test the guns of people who were shooting near where a camper was killed as it tries to find out where the fatal bullet came from.

As of July 14, one gun had already been tested and the sheriff’s office says it did not fire the deadly shot.

Two other guns will also be tested. Those results are expected next week.

The sheriff’s office is working with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to conduct the tests.

Investigators believe 60-year-old Glenn Martin was likely shot by accident by a high-powered rifle while camping in the Rainbow Falls Park area of the Pike National Forest on July 3.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ron Hanavan says numerous people were shooting in the area that day and some may be worried that they may have fired the fatal shot.

He didn’t have an estimate of the number of shooters nearby. He says investigators are trying to determine who was shooting based on people who have stepped forward to volunteer information.
