Mother and son reported missing in western Colorado found safe

A Mesa County mom and her young son have been found in Grand Junction after being reported missing over the weekend.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office did not release any additional details about the disappearance of Shannon Kunkel, 34, and Luke Kunkel Jr., 1 1/2, but it did say that they are both safe.

The sheriff’s offices says the two failed to return after Shannon Kunkel left a note at her parent’s house Friday saying she was going into town.
