Bustang begins bus service in Colorado Springs

way to get from colorado springs to denver and it’s a first of it’s kind for the state. bustang hits the road today… and it’s colorado’s first-ever state-owned bus service. as krdo newschannel 13’s zach pagano reports, the shuttle is a welcome sight for commuters. . a new bus service is opening doors for colorado springs commuters. bustang is open for business… and it’s not just a one trick pony. they had a whole bunch of buses taking off pretty early in the morning and i could get to work around 8 o’clock. branston dibrell commutes to denver… and rode the frex shuttle before it stopped running in 2012. ever since then, i’ve been driving and even though i get there faster, the wear and tear on my car has been a big negative. now it’s out with the old… and in with the new. it’s a very good day for colorado springs and for the state of colorado. mayor john suthers helped dedicate the new c-dot funded bus program. he says bustang will save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that it used to spend on frex. that became, frankly, too expensive for us. it was detracting from our other transit operations. suthers says the city will continue to invest in public transportaion. my guess is years from now we’ll probably have some sort of rapid transit system, but that’s years from now. but in the meantime, this is the kind of transportation network that we need to have. commuters now have more options on their way to work. i’m going to try to do some work on the bus, see how the wifi, that kind of stuff works. it’s going to be good. and with the purple carpet rolled out… bustang is ready to take to the streets. in colorado springs, zach pagano, krdo newschannel 13. bustang operates on weekdays… and takes travelers to and from denver, fort collins and glenwood springs. prices range from ten to 28- dollars, depending on where you go. president
