Remembering Glenn Martin: Man shot by stray bullet

Friends and family of Glenn Martin gathered in north Colorado Springs to remember the 60-year-old man who was fatally struck by a stray bullet at a Rainbow Falls camp site, on July 3.

The memorial service was held at New Life Church Saturday afternoon.

“He was my best friend, he was my hero, my example of how I want my boys to turn out,” said Carlie Cordova, one of Martin’s daughters.

Those who knew Martin best, shared memories of him.

“Glenn was a devoted father, friend and son. Anytime you needed him, he was there to offer a helping hand,” said Jeannette Martin, daughter.

“He will be in our mind, heart and strength. He will watch over us and take care of us,” said Jacob Martin, a grandson.

“I have no doubt that he is in heaven singing praises with the angels to his heavenly father,” said Becky Steele, sister.

Martin’s family shared the story of their final moments with him.

“I know you’ve all heard the terror and the details of that horrific day. He took a bullet and stopped it from harming my family. That was my dad, looking out for all of us, that’s what he did, he took care of us,” said Cordova.

Martin, a Colorado native, was an outdoors man, athlete and musician. Those who knew him best say family was No. 1 for Martin.

“That Friday I was telling my wife, how close we were getting. But its OK. I know he’s in a better place,” said Chris Cordova, son-in-law.

“Last Friday, God must have had a big project that he needed the best and called on Glenn to come and Glenn came running,” said Lee Martin, brother.

After the memorial service, family and friends planted a tree outside of New Life Church in honor of Martin.
