Colorado Springs rescuers wrap up search for man in Sand Creek

First responders in Colorado Springs have ended their search in Sand Creek, with no discovery, after reports that a man fell in Thursday night.

Fire Battalion Chief Tim De Leon told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that if a cadaver dog could not find evidence of a person in the Creek, they would call off the search.

Crews spent all day Friday along Sand Creek from Fountain Boulevard to Highway 85/87.

“At no point have we identified a clue or something that would indicate the individual is still in the area,” De Leon said. “We’ve also flown drones over the area to investigate certain areas.”

A witness told police they saw a 6-foot man wearing black pants and a black beanie fall in Thursday night, police said.

While searchers believe the tip was credible, they said they’ve done everything possible, including using drones, to try to locate the person.

Those rescuers say they don’t respond to as many calls for service at creeks anymore, partially because of efforts made by the fire department, along with the city of Colorado Springs.

Ditch Playing in Ditches was launched to warn residents about the dangers of creeks. While exact numbers aren’t available, those crews say they haven’t received as many calls for swift water emergencies in creeks.
