Conservation group saves one of the largest working cattle ranches in southern Colorado

A Colorado Springs conservation group is saving a more than 20,000-acre ranch in Pueblo County.

The Palmer Land Trust put a conservation easement on the BX Ranch. It’s a ranch that’s in eastern Pueblo County and south of Highway 50.

The trust paid more than $1 million for the easement to make sure the ranch is strictly used for agricultural farming.

The more than 20,000-acre cattle ranch faced different projects, including a proposal to put a nuclear power plant on the location.

The group said BX is one of the largest working cattle ranches in Pueblo County.

The money for the easement came from private donations and Great Outdoors Colorado.
