Official statement: Fort Carson calls personnel loss minimal
Fort Carson has released the following statement about soldier cuts in the Army that will impact the post:
“Fort Carson will incur a minimal loss of personnel due to the Department of the Army’s force restructure plans. Approximately 350 Soldiers are projected to be cut from our force of approximately 24,000 Soldiers. The reductions consists of a 25-percent decrease of the 4th Infantry Division headquarters in line with the Army decision for all two-star and above headquarters. Also, the armored brigade combat team will be reorganized in line with the Army 2020 initiative. Additionally, explosive ordnance disposal company elements will be affected.
Fort Carson extends its continued gratitude to our surrounding communities for their selfless support to our Soldiers, Families and Civilians as we work through future restructuring and possible sequestration. As the Army implements its drawdown strategy to balance the force and sustain capability and readiness, we will treat all of our Soldiers and Families with dignity and respect while recognizing their service and sacrifice.
We will not speculate on any future force restructuring decisions, however, if sequestration occurs, every Army installation, including Fort Carson, has the potential to be impacted by further force reductions.”
Earlier today, Congressman Doug Lamborn said 365 soldiers will be cut from Fort Carson.
