Connecting sick animals with volunteers in need
The Southern Colorado Spay & Neuter Clinic is connecting sick animals with people who have chronic illnesses.
The clinic serves special needs rescues at its facility at 1700 S. Prairie Ave.
Executive Director Lisa Marie Buccambuso said she decided to begin a support group after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year.
“It gave me a better connection to the rescues that we have here,” Buccambuso said.
She told KRDO NewsChannel 13 she hopes the group will encourage animal lovers to volunteer and help animals with special needs, like those missing a leg or that have leukemia.
Tiffany Davis volunteers at the shelter. She was recently diagnosed with heart failure and said being around animals helps relieve her anxiety.
“I have a pacemaker defibrillator that’s gone off a few times and misfired. So my anxieties usually pretty bad. So when I get too bad I come in here and hang out with Sunshine or some of the other animals,” Davis said.
