Vigil Planned For Local Teen After Overdosing on Molly

A Colorado Springs teenager is in stable but critical condition after overdosing on the drug ‘Molly.’ Tonight, family and friends will hold a vigil at Sand Creek High School where Megan Pacheco graduated.

Megan’s friends describe her as fun-loving and carefree.

“She was always there to lift everyone up on the team and the shoulder to cry on,” said Shelby Harold.

Now, her friends are leaning on each other for support as they pray for her recovery.

“She’s definitely fighting for her life right now and we don’t doubt that she is going to be fine but it’s going to be a bigger struggle than I thought,” said Harold.

Pacheco’s kidneys and liver failed after taking the drug while at a friend’s house a few weeks ago.

“These days you just never know. It can take one time,” said Sydni Stevenson.

Pacheco graduated from Sand Creek High School in May. She plans on attending the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, this fall.

“She has a photo of her on Instagram all decked out in her UNC gear and she is very excited for it. Today was supposed to be her orientation,” said Harold.

Pacheco was life-flighted to the Children’s hospital in Aurora. As her family and friends try to stay strong – they also want to spread a message.

“We really want to get the awareness out there so it doesn’t happen again. So kids are aware and parents can be in their kids life. Her’s were in her life of course, but you just never know,” said Stevenson.

“We’re just holding out hope for the good news to come in and we can’t wait to wake up to that text message that she’s improving,” said Harold.

The candlelight vigil begins tonight at 8 p.m. at Sand Creek High School. Family and friends plan on making cards to bring to Pacheco’s hospital room.
