Smoke from Canadian wildfires lingers over Colorado

Haze from smoke drifting south from wildfires burning in Canada continues to linger over Colorado.

Smoke advisories have been in effect in various areas since Monday afternoon. On Wednesday, the state said light to locally heavy smoke from the fires would impact much of eastern Colorado, including the entire northern and southern Front Range and all of southeastern Colorado.

A wildfire smoke health advisory for those areas is in effect until 4 p.m.

The haze contains small particles of debris from the fires and poses the biggest threat to people with lung disease, older adults and children. Those groups are urged to limit prolonged or heavy exertion especially in areas where the visibility is less than five miles.

Rain expected later in the day could help clear out the haze.
