Report: Army plans to cut 40,000 soldiers over the next two years

Tens of thousands of soldiers and civilian employees will be affected by massive Army cutbacks, according to USA Today.

The publication reports that it has obtained documents which say the Army plans to cut 40,000 soldiers and 17,000 civilian workers.

USA Today says budget cuts are necessitating the cutbacks. It says the goal is to reduce the size of the Army to 450,000 soldiers by the end of budget year 2017.

The report does not specify how severely the cuts would affect Fort Carson.
