UPDATE: Pilot killed in Summit County medical helicopter crash identified

One person died and two others were injured Friday afternoon when a Flight-for-Life helicopter exploded and burst into flames during take-off near Frisco, according to firefighters.

Our news partners at KMGH-TV report the Summit County Coroner identified the pilot as Patrick Mahany, 64. He was a veteran pilot who received medals as a military chopper pilot in Vietnam and flown 27 years for Flight for Life.

The person who died has been identified as pilot Patrick Mahany.

Air Methods, the company that contracts the helicopter, said the flight paramedic and flight nurse on board were hurt. No patients were on board, the company said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are now investigating.
