Pueblo West water war set for Saturday

The battle lines are going to be drawn on Saturday as thousands of people soak and drench each other in a water war.

The Pueblo West Fire Department said people have been saving their spots since Wednesday for the annual Dry-Wet Parade.

More than 15,000 people are expected to show up for the event.

The fire department said the tradition started more than 30 years ago when a fire chief from the Pueblo West Fire Department decided to spray people because it was hot.

Pueblo West resident Roy Grissom said he looks forward to this event every year.

“It’s us against them, against the parade, people in the parade, and actually it’s water war against your neighbors you’re shooting water at,” he said.

The parade is set to happen at 10 a.m. with the dry section of the parade to start. When the Pueblo West Fire Department starts spraying water into the crowd, that’s when the wet parade begins.

Water balloons and high-pressure water sprayers will not be allowed at the event.
