Red Rock Canyon, portion of Pikes Peak Greenway trail set to reopen

The city of Colorado Springs says two popular recreation spots will reopen in time for the holiday weekend.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space and the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail from Nevada Ave. south to Janitell Rd. will reopen Friday morning, July 3 . The two areas have been closed due to storm damage since mid-May.

Repairs to trails and infrastructure within Red Rock Canyon Open Space have addressed the safety concerns brought about by the May storm damage Damage still exists in certain areas within the park and repair work will be ongoing for the next two to three months Park and trail users are advised to use caution and to continue to comply with posted closures and stay clear of crews and equipment

Pikes Peak Greenway Trail

The section of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail from Nevada Avenue to Janitell Rd will reopen The Pikes Peak Greenway Trail north of Nevada Avenue is open Beyond Janitell Rd significant portions of the trail remain washed out and impassable

South Slope open for Fishing

Experience a high altitude outdoor experience this summer on the south slope of Pikes Peak! The South Slope Recreation Area trails are open to fishing at McReynolds Reservoir and Mason Reservoir.Fishing is from shore only at Mason; no boating or wading is allowed. Non-motorized boating is allowed at McReynolds.

Use of the area is by permit only Parking and the number of users is limited. Reservations may be obtained online atcoloradosprings.govor stop by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Administration Office at 1401 Recreation Way in Colorado SpringsMonday-Fridaybetween 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.Rules and regulations for the area are listed online.

Uncle Wilber Fountain Closed until further notice

Due to mechanical issues, the Uncle Wilber Fountain in Acacia Park will be closed until further notice.Deerfield Hills Spray Ground and the Julie Penrose Fountain at America the Beautiful Park are other great –and free!– places to cool off!
