AWOL Fort Carson soldier arrested in Caon City

A Fort Carson soldier arrested in Caon City driving a stolen vehicle had been AWOL from the Mountain Post since May 29.

Sgt. Joseph Kimsey, 22, was arrested by Caon City police early Tuesday morning. An officer spotted a suspicious vehicle in the Walmart parking lot, police said.

An investigation showed the vehicle was stolen and wanted in connection with the death of 27-year-old Ashley Melnyczok in Colorado Springs.

Springs police found Melnyczok stabbed to death at the Grand River Canyon Apartments in northern Colorado Springs on June 3.

Kimsey was transferred to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. He had seven arrest warrants there, Caon City police said.
