Don’t forget about Fido on the Fourth
Many people will be celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks, but the Humane Society has a reminder when it comes to fireworks: keep them away from your pets.
Dogs and fireworks are a bad mix because of the light and the noise.
Every year, dozens of dogs run away and get lost during the Fourth of July holiday, leading to frantic searches by owners.
They say that it’s preventable with a few simple steps.
Gretchen Pressley, from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, said, “The best way to keep them safe is to keep them in a darkened room, perhaps with a little bit of background noise that can drown out the other sounds.”
If you decide to use fireworks, Pressley said that you can get a type of pet shirt called a ThunderShirt that calms them down.
If you’re interested in getting one, you can contact them or your vet.
