Family watches lightning strike their house

Lightning lights up the sky, but it also puts people on alert.

A family is on edge after watching lightning strike their house and backyard in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood Sunday night.

“It felt like something had just hit our house. It was just a loud boom and a loud crack,” said Jenny Cramer, who was inside her home when lightning struck her backyard. “The tree was just shredded. It sent debris all over the yard.”

Cramer’s husband was watching the storm from an upstairs window with their kids when lightning hit the house.

The damage serves as a reminder that homeowners need to be ready for anything.

“It makes us a bit nervous having lightning strike in our backyard,” Cramer said. “We’ve experienced so many other things in Colorado as well that you just kind of know anything can happen here.”

“It tore through the screen a little bit and the window got singed,” Cramer said. “My husband was standing on a heater vent and felt a little jolt.”

The Cramers were about to put their kids to bed when the storm came over their house.

“I was very appreciative that bedtimes took longer because we might have been hanging out on the deck,” Cramer said. “We are appreciative that nothing else happened to us and that nobody was hurt.”
