Inside Civil Air Patrol training

called on during missing persons searches, the gulf oil spill. even during various floods and fires in the last three years. the civil air patrol has come to the rescue countless times in colorado. citing a selfless sacrifice and service to country. tonight we got the chance to go inside one of the planes to see what it takes to be ready for any disaster or emergency at a moment’s notice. they power their engines… and take off for flight at the worst of times. nats 4:41 whether supporting military with things like air defense, being on the coast helping with the hurricanes or the oil spills and the disaster relief. here in colorado with the wildfires, folks that are lost hikers, downed aircraft in the mountains. veterans of the program like lt. colonel chad grondahl have seen a lot in his 20-plus year career. 2:01 we can add alot to a department or resource that doesn’t have a lot of resources to do it on their own. which is why the prepare. 1:35 we pride ourselves in being volunteer professionals. while part of the air force – they’re hired by governments to aid in emergency efforts, which saves taxpayer money. many of the volunteers are not military… which is why traing is vital. 4:01 we’ve got a fantastic group, all ages, all skill leves and all types of interest. hoping courses and drills like these… makes them ready the next time they’re need. 4:37 we’re out there day in and day out doing alll types of support. in addition to emergency flights and relief, the air patrol has been watching for problems along area burn scars.
