Pueblo West wants more money from county pot tax in the future

Pueblo West wants a bigger slice of the pot sales tax pie.

The Pueblo West Metro Board met with county commissioners Monday to discuss the future of the recreational marijuana sales tax revenue.

The metro board said since it has a majority of the retail marijuana shops in the county, it feels it should receive more money and that money would go toward more projects.

“Roads are a No. 1 priority; we have some fire station needs. We have recreational needs and it all depends on the board of directors as to what they will be asking for during the budget process,” board member Jerry Martin said.

County Commissioner Terry Hart said the county would only give the money if the purpose for the funds will benefit the people who live in the area.

Pueblo County has made more than $500,000 from the recreational pot tax in 2014.

Pueblo West received $200,000 from the county. It will use that money to improve the gravel roads in the area.
