Police: Child sex assault suspect may have had contact with as many as 140 girls in 6 states, 30 in Colorado Springs
The Colorado Springs Police Department says it believes there may be more victims in a child sex investigation that spans a half-dozen states.
Colorado Springs Police say they began investigating Anthony Martinez, 25, in November 2014. They say Martinez was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Court papers say Martinez got the girl pregnant and that the two had been having sex since she was 12.
The documents say the sexual encounters usually happened at Martinez’s home and that the pair communicated through Facebook messenger.
Police say they tracked Martinez to Arizona. He was arrested in Flagstaff on May 11, 2015.
Police say that since his arrest, detectives have uncovered information that suggests he has had illegal, physical contact with underage girls in Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, New York and California. Investigators say they think Martinez had varying degrees of contact with more than 140 underage girls, including at least 30 in the Colorado Springs area, between 2011 and 2015.
Police say Martinez frequently contacted the girls through social media and that in some cases he may have asked for photos of the girls or their family members, or sent them photos of himself. They say he may have also met some of the girls in person at places where young people frequently hang out.
Anyone who has had physical contact with Martinez, sent photos to him or received photos from him is asked to call Colorado Springs Police at 719-444-7000.
