Lightning strikes construction site, worker stunned by sight and sound
The Colorado Springs Fire Department says five construction workers were injured by a lightning strike Wednesday, one of them seriously.
Two of those workers refused treatment and went home. The other three were taken to the hospital, two of them were released hours later.
The strike happened at around 1:35 p.m. near the intersection of Woodmen Road and Tutt Blvd., which is east of St. Francis Medical Center.
John Vander Vere was working on the site.
“I told my co-worker hey, we gotta go,” he said. “It was a lot brighter than most usual lightning, but this was pretty close.”
The fire department says all of the affected workers were men in their 30s.
