Colorado Republican party chairman meets with prosecutors

A lawyer for the Colorado Republican party is meeting with prosecutors over an alleged attempt to blackmail the party chairman into resigning his post.

A party spokesman said Tuesday the party’s attorney has spoken with both the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Denver District Attorney’s office about a meeting chairman Steve House had with Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman and former Rep. Rom Tancredo.

House has said the two and another local Republican told him to resign or false rumors of an affair may begin to circulate.

House refused to resign. Party Spokesman Owen Loftus said the attorney met with prosecutors after the incident.

Coffman has called the allegations “rumors and lies.”
