More officers will be on patrol to prevent gang activity

More officers will be out on the streets to help combat gang activity in Pueblo.

Pueblo police presented a plan to council Monday night to help solve the gang violence problem.

There have been nine gang-related shooting since the beginning of May.

Deputy Chief Andrew McLachlan said the ways officers are going to help stop gang activity is by bringing officers up to speed on the gang problems and more officers will be transferred from other divisions in order to patrol the streets.

Councilman Dennis Flores said it’s going to take more than the police to combat the gangs.

“You can’t just depend on police officers that are spread out too thin. We have to be diligent. We have to be looking at our neighbors, watching out for neighbors and make sure we are safe,” he said.

There have been 16 shootings in Pueblo so far this year.
