Vigil for shooting victims

church massacre was in court today and charged with nine counts of murder and possession of a firearm. tonight people from around the world are standing together to remember the families affected and lives taken. natural sound the memorial at the church in south carolina continues to grow behind crime scene tape attracting thousands of mourners praying for peace. an african methodist episcopal church in colorado springs held a prayer vigil tonight … with a massive turnout. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller was there at the service. greg, the shooting on the minds of hundreds in the springs tonight. heather, payne chapel is a tied to the historic emanuel african methodist episcopal church in south carolina. in the midst of an horrific shooting – the people here earlier tonight, say there is hope. if you expected a service of sadness. you’d be wrong. those people are gone and they will not come back. but they did not die in vein, i don’t feel that they died in vein. many in charleston call wednesday night’s shooting pure evil. but after that evil, they see hope in how a community a thousand miles away, came together. he has defeated his purpose. that although he wanted to annihalate black people simply because they were black, but his purpose has been defeated no matter the color of skin, or gender or age … a lot of people don’t want to see the role they have in things that are going on with race relations. everybody needs to think about their role in this. i gain strength, sure my skin is black and yours is white. i don’t care, that doesn’t mean anything. underneath, you are just a person. i am just a person. hundreds in a packed chapel… stand united in prayer, remembering those who died…and now look for a brighter future. we’ve been fighting these same struggles, and it’s not going to end overnight. but brining everyone into these conversation in the community, we need to come together, we need to be a christian body of people. unified for change – the pastor echoed those sentiments tonight, telling those who came that by staying hopeful and supporting each other, the suspect would never achieve what he’d hoped for. live in the springs, greg miller, krdo newschannel 13. in addition to tonight’s vigil… the springs
