Pueblo AME congregation prays for peace

The tragedy in Charleston, South Carolina hit close to home for people in Pueblo.

People from different churches in the city came together at the First AME Church to remember those killed in the church shooting in South Carolina.

People sang songs, prayed, shared testimonies and a lit a candle in remembrance.

The Rev. Margaret Redmond of First AME said the church shooting brought back bad memories.

“(It reminds me of) the church bombing in Alabama. We thought we were past all that and then we realized that we still have a long way to go,” she said.

Redmond hopes Pueblo can be a model of unity.

“It is my prayer that the world sees that we are all one family and much of the work being done is positioning us to be a model of community relations for the entire world,” she said.

First AME Church is a sister congregation of Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina, where nine people were killed Wednesday night.
