Closures lead to busy day at Lake Pueblo

People are anxious to float their boats at Lake Pueblo, but before they cast off, they have to be patient.

Boat inspectors had their hands full at the Pueblo Reservoir Saturday. The north ramp was the only place where people could cast off in their boats, since other spots around the reservoir were closed because of the high water.

People who work for Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the reservoir has been releasing water, but more water is coming in just as fast from the Arkansas River.

Inspectors say Father’s Day is usually their busiest day. They are expecting more than 400 people to show up Sunday.

“Usually, we go to all different kinds of lakes. It’s not usually this packed but now it is. You can basically have your own lunch out here while waiting in line,” boater Sally Pina said.

The closures at Lake Pueblo are the south boat ramp, the south fishing shoreline, N-1 Cove and the north picnic area.
