Payne Chapel AME increases security
A Colorado Springs church increased their security with new cameras and lights- after Wednesday’s tragedy in South Carolina.
The Payne Chapel AME on Marion Drive added two new security cameras.
“We’ve always had that one camera there then we added the second camera,” said the Rev. Arthur B. Carter Jr.
Carter says the church shooting in Charleston made him think twice about the safety of his congregation.
“We took another look after the incident and saw a few blind spots. It made us all now be aware that we probably need to be more aware. Be diligent, look around, and interact with our guests more,” said Carter.
They also added new lights to their back doors to help at night time.
He hopes it will help his members feel safe, especially at events like Friday night’s vigil.
“I just want an opportunity for the community to come together, across cultures, across denominations. This is not a political event. This is a community event. We’re all grieving. Let’s grieve together,” said Carter.
