Immigration detainee from Mexico dies at Colorado hospital

A Mexican national in the custody of U.S. immigration authorities since June 9 has died from complications due to liver and kidney failure in Colorado Springs.

Marcos Navarrette-Quintana was transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities from the El Paso County Jail.

At the jail, a federal agent became concerned about Navarrette-Quintana’s health and he was rushed to a hospital, suffering from liver and kidney failure.

Immigration officials said Navarrette-Quintana illegally entered the United States about 15 years ago. He was convicted of driving under the influence in 2013.

Later that year, a federal immigration judge ordered him returned to Mexico.
