Springs teen who lost arm in shark attack released from hospital

A North Carolina hospital says a teenager from Colorado Springs who was attacked by a shark is doing well enough that he has been discharged from the hospital.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center didn’t release anymore details about his release Thursday morning.

“I didn’t see it coming,” said Hunter Treschl.

The Colorado Springs 16 year old was attacked by a shark Monday. The competitive swimmer lost his arm in the attack while on vacation in North Carolina.

It happened as he was in waist-deep water, playing with his cousin.

“I felt this kind of ‘hit on my left leg. it felt like a big fish coming near you, or something. I felt it one more time, that was the first i saw it — it was biting up my left arm.”

With help from his cousin, Treschl was able to get out of the water, and was rushed to the hospital.

“They wheeled me into the ER, and 25 people were there, and it was kindof a spectacle, because I was conscious for this whole thing and aware,” Treschl somewhat laughed, remembering.

“They fixed my arm up, and did a pretty good job on it, from what I hear. I”ve lost my arm. So I have two options: I can try to live my life the way I was, or I can let this be completely debilitating, and bring it down and ruin it, in a way.”

Trestle is grateful to the ambulance crews and hospital staff for all they’ve done to save his life. He’s also grateful to his friends back here in Colorado Springs for their encouraging messages.
