Pueblo hospital shows off new robot

Parkview Medical Center has a new tool to make surgery safer and easier.

People at the hospital had an opportunity to try out the hospital’s new robotic surgery system.

Surgeons have used the robot for more than a month and it has already done more than 40 surgeries.

The robot has four arms and the surgeons use controls in order to move the robot.

“It allows us to do a lot of complicating things in a lot of difficult locations in the abdomen that we couldn’t do with small scar surgery before,” Dr. Sandeep Vijan said.

Vijan said the robot is meant to be used for the midsection, but he hopes in the future that the hospital can receive robots that can work on the rest of the body.

Parkview is one of three hospitals in Colorado to use this robot.
