Soggy weather delays new home construction

The weather is impacting home construction in Southern Colorado.

It’s delaying work because water is flooding open foundations. Brokers say it is extending the completion dates by up to 30 days.

But it’s not expected to hurt the market because low inventory is keeping it competitive.

It’s another story when it comes to existing home sales.

“We’re finding that things are happening right before closing. We’re getting notification from the buyers that did a walk through that all of a sudden, there’s water in the basement, said Chris Lutyen, Managing Broker, Coldwell Banker.

Lutyen said contracts are written to allow extra time for weather-related problems.
