Colorado GOP chair denies rumors of looming resignation

The new chairman of the Colorado Republican Party announced he is staying in his job after state Attorney General Cynthia Coffman said his resignation was imminent.

Chairman Steve House on Tuesday called the rumors of his resignation false and says he’s focused on helping his party win in 2016.

House’s statement was prompted in part by a Coffman email to The Denver Post saying he was resigning, but she didn’t explain why. She declined to comment to The Associated Press.

Coffman, a Republican, was one House’s biggest supporters in his election to state party chair in March when he defeated incumbent party Chairman Ryan Call.

Call’s defeat was surprising because Republicans racked up victories around the state, including the election of U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner.
