Update: Missing Colorado Springs girl found safe
Myrtle Beach police said they’ve found a Colorado Springs teenager who went missing over the weekend. Her mother, Ruth Coward, tells us Jalene Coward, 13, was found in North Carolina, but police are not releasing any further details right now.
“There are so many things going through my head. I just want to hold her. We just got a call from detectives, they said they picked her up,” said Ruth Coward.
Police said Jalene Coward went missing Saturday night at the hotel where she and her family were staying. She was last seen taking the trash out of her family’s hotel room and walking toward the trash chute.
Investigators were looking for two vehicles of interest: a red Chevrolet Impala with chrome wheels and a red Grand Marquis. Both vehicles were seen around the hotel at the time of the disappearance.
Jalene Coward’s family created a Facebook page to help find their daughter. Colorado Springs Police said it’s important to get information and photos to the public as soon as possible.
“If you get all of the community looking, and they know what to look for and they have an accurate picture to look at, you’d be surprised how just the average person would be able to help solve and find this missing child,” said Shawn Peterson, a detective with the Colorado Springs Police missing persons unit.
Jalene Coward’s mother said they appreciate the support they received from their community.
“I just really want to say thank you to everyone for their prayers,” Ruth Coward said. “I want to thank all the people in Colorado Springs that were helping bring her back to us.”
Myrtle Beach Police announced Monday morning that Jalene had been found but did not give further details.
