Springs Spree 5k benefits kids with Cerebral Palsy

Runners laced up their shoes to make a difference Sunday at Memorial Park.

It’s part of the 38th annual Springs Spree event. The 5k race benefits the Cerebral Palsy Association of Colorado Springs.

“We help with funding for equipment, for therapies, for therapeutic riding and for summer activities, said Sara Berge, executive director of Cerebral Palsy Association of Colorado Springs.

Families came out to show support for their loved ones.

“Anything we can do to help financially support the effort, we’re all about it,” said Kristin Barbuto, whose son has Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. “We’re here to represent all the CP fighters out there that are doing what they can to have a happy life.”

Runners said it’s important to look out for those who need it most.

“You have to put others first,” runner Freddy McDaniel said. “It’s the big family. We’re all one world.”

Proceeds will help provide financial support and mobility equipment to people with Cerebral Palsy and their families.
