Evacuations lifted after dangerous gas leak controlled

Six homes in Colorado Springs were evacuated Friday because of a gas leak.

The leak was controlled and the evacuations were lifted just before 5:30 p.m.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department said the leak at a home in the 1900 block of West Bijou Street was reported at around 3 p.m.

West Bijou was closed between 19th and 20th Streets.

The owner of the home where the leak happened tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the natural gas level was so high there was danger of an explosion.
