forest community is looking back today on the most destructive wildfire in colorado history. two years after the black forest fire, many residents have rebuilt their homes… including the founder of the national mill dog rescue. krdo newschannel 13’s zach pagano spoke with theresa strader about rebuilding and recovering. today is a time for reflection. suddenly around 5:00, this orange glow came over the trees. two years after the black forest fire… homeowners look back on a day they will never forget. this whole thing went from being scary to terrifying literally at the snap of a finger, it was really scary. theresa strader founded the national mill dog rescue… and had more than 20 dogs at her home when the fire reached her backyard. i took a piece of paper and wrote down every living thing on the property, human and animal. and i said if we have to get out of here, i’m going to be at the gate and i’m just going to check everyone off as they go through the door and we’re out. the house strader lived in for 17 years was destroyed… but she was determined to rebuild. the dog who founded our rescue is buried here on this property, and we’re not going to leave her behind. not much remains from before the fire. it’s never going to feel like home without the trees, ever. but there’s still one tree that helps stra strader remember the past. in black forest, zach pagano, krdo newschannel 13. today is also the deadline for black forest fire insurance claims. homeowners with an insurance claim have to settle it or file an extension today. and today is also
