Rescuers help Boy Scouts stranded on Colorado ice field

Crews have rescued Boy Scouts stranded on a field of snow and ice in the mountains of southwestern Colorado.

Marti Whitmore, a spokeswoman for Ouray County, says a rescue team helped the group of 36 children and seven adults make it through the area on Wednesday and got them back on a trail. No injuries were reported.

It’s not clear where the scouts are from. Whitmore says they have been hiking and camping in the Richmond Pass area between Ouray and Silverton

There is still a lot of snow and ice at higher elevations and heavy rain, and possibly snow, is possible in the area through Thursday. Flooding in the region is possible as the new rain drains into streams running high because of the spring melt off of snow.
