Denver police told not to fire on moving vehicles
The Denver Police Department has changed its guidelines for officers, saying they can no longer fire on moving vehicles.
In a statement Tuesday, the department adds its officers will receive training on how to respond in situation where they might feel threatened by a driver.
Last week, the city’s district attorney announced he had decided no charges should be filed against two officers in the shooting death of a 17-year-old girl who had driven a stolen car toward them in an alley in January. District Attorney Mitch Morrissey says the life of one of the officers was threatened,
The new guidelines ban firing at a moving vehicle unless deadly force is being used against an officer or another person – and the moving vehicle itself cannot be considered the threat.
