Class ring is reunited with owner after 28 years
A special reunion took place this week between a Colorado Springs man and his beloved class ring. The ring from 1987 had been missing for more than two decades.
Stephen Goodrich lost his treasured ring 28 years ago. He was shocked when he got it back this week.
“I’m absolutely floored. There’s a lot of sentimental value to it,” Goodrich said.
It was stolen his senior year at Doherty High School.
“My parents bought it. Money was tight back then, so it was kind of devastating to lose it. Having Laura and Yolanda track me down, it floors me,” Goodrich said.
Lara Mendez and Yolanda Bush are the ladies responsible for finding the ring and doing their detective work.
“I think Mr. Doherty would be proud right now, his kids went far,” said Bush.
Mendez came across the ring in a pawn shop. She recognized her high school mascot. She then turned to Facebook, posted a photo and started digging.
“I saw the initials and I went on Facebook and went through the names of everyone who graduated in ’87” Bush said.
Small engraved initials inside the ring was their only clue.
Eventually, through social media, Goodrich’s name came up.
“It’s just amazing, thanks Facebook for finally for something good,” said Bush.
After decades the ring also brought the three alum back together, creating a small class reunion.
“To know that there’s still good in the world, people will try to do this for you, it’s pretty amazing,” Goodrich said.
