Rental seekers find difficulty in Pikes Peak region
Rental seekers in the Pikes Peak region are finding few vacancies and high prices.
According to data from the apartment association of southern colorado, the vacancy rate in the first quarter of 2015 was about 6%. In the competitive market, rental seekers need to act fast.
“Trying to find something that’s $900, $1,000 a month, which it seems, most renters, that’s about the price range they’re looking for, if something comes on the market, it’s gone within 24 hours,” Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices realtor Debra Faricy said.
Rebecca Taylor is finding out the hard way, how difficult it is to find a rental.
“Especially coming out here by myself, it’s a very daunting task,” she said.
Faricy said she often recommends online searches at sites like Pikes Peak Association of Realtors and Rentals.com. Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices also has an app to find rentals.
She and others warn about scams on sites like Craigslist, where scammers post nonexistent vacancies. They request a deposit, and victims find out the truth once their money has been lost.
