Pilot Killed in Colorado Plane Crash Identified

A man killed Friday when his single-engine experimental plane crashed into the front of a hangar at the Eagle County Regional Airport has been identified.

The crash killed 68-year-old Karl Hipp of Crawford.

Another person, a female, was injured and taken to the Vail Valley Medical Center. Hipp and the woman were the only two in the Rebel aircraft.

The Vail Daily reportsthat Hipp owned and operated Karl Hipp Designs Rustic Lamps, which makes wrought iron lighting fixtures.

The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

The plane touched down on the runway in gusting winds at about 4:50 p.m. Friday.

The runway at Eagle County Regional Airport has since reopened.
