Family cleaning up after tornado near Simla

up the pieces after a tornado tore through their property. they watched several tornadoes touch down last night. krdo nechannel 13’s zach pagano spoke with the family who rode out the storm in their basement. we’ve lived here for a year and a half… and thought that since it was a 100 year house we would be pretty safe, but i guess it was due. when kyle and kristen stodola moved into their home… they were hoping for some peace and quiet to raise their animals. but their world turned upside down. we saw a bigger tornado coming wn… so i went inside and got kristin and said come and take a look at this. they watched as multiple twisters formed around their house. just trying to keep everybody calm. trying to help the kids to stay calm and not freak out. standup: moments before the tornado hit their house, kristin and kyle got their kids to the basement for shelter, they took cover, and then heard the destruction happening upstairs. couldn’t see anything, and the lights went out and then glass started blowing everywhere and then our basement door slams shut. as they look around at what they’ve lost… they say they’re thankful for what they still have: a family and a helping hand from neighbors. we didn’t ask for help, they just showed up and it was awesome. now… they’re cleaning up after a night of destruction they will never forget. in elbert county, zach pagano, krdo newschannel 13. six homes were damaged near simla last night, but there are no reported injuries. keep in mind that the actual number of tornadoes yesterday may change. an expert from the national weather service is analyzing the sites today. crews are starting
