Standoff with alleged shoplifter ends in suburban Denver
A standoff between an alleged shoplifter and police in a suburban Denver neighborhood is over.
Police say the 30-year-old suspect was taken into custody Thursday morning after keeping police at bay for about 18 hours while holed up in a home in Greenwood Village.
He apparently picked the home randomly while fleeing police Wednesday after allegedly shoplifting from a Walmart in Aurora. A 9-year-old boy was in the home at the time and managed to get out before the suspect fired at police.
KMGH reported that SWAT teams blew holes in the home and used chemical agents and flash bang grenades to get the man out.
Police chief John Jackson says no one was hurt and officers backed up, starting the standoff.
