Pay raises for Colorado officeholders signed into law

Future Colorado lawmakers, governor, and other state officeholders will get pay raises with a bill signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper.

The raises take effect 2019 and lawmakers who supported the increases say they’re warranted because their salaries haven’t been adjusted in nearly 20 years.

Hickenlooper signed the bill Wednesday.

The governor’s salary would increase from $90,000 a year to about $117,000. Lawmakers’ pay would go from $30,000 a year to about $38,000. The lieutenant governor, treasurer, and other county officials would also get raises.

The bill was introduced during the session’s final days and passed with little debate.
