Landslide repair in Rockrimmon

springs homeowners are on edge as portions of their backyards continue to collapse. heavy rain caused dirt and rocks to slide into north rockrimmon creek … putting homes at risk of sinking an sliding. krdo newschannel 13’s zach pagano is live in rockrimmon… he’s tracking what the city’s doing to prevent more erosion. thanks to record-breaking rain totals … this is becoming a familiar site in this neighborhood. the city is calling this the “highest priority” repair project…. spending 2- million dollars to keep homes in the area out of harms way. it’s still hard to believe for homeowners in rockrimmon. we have a little leeway on this side because the slope is a lot longer and much more gradual versus the steepness on the southside of the creek. brent williams and his neighbors watch bits of their backyards erode away daily. it’s a lot of clay and shifting. we watched this happen over the years but this last month has been big chunks of erosion. the city is now stepping in … installing a new 8-foot diameter pipe to improve drainage and keep the ground from collapsing. it’s kind of like chocolate pudding. It wants to keep caving in on itself. crews need to use about 50-thousand tons of dirt for this project. They’re getting it all from the waldo canyon burn scar, collecting some of the sediment that’s washed up here over the past few weeks. we’re going to take the material out of the debris basin, get it cleaned out, bring it down here. So it helps both projects at the same time. homeowners say the repair project is much-needed, and they hope it makes a difference. it’s a big challenge for the city to handle this.
