Historic B-25 bomber stops in Pueblo for rides

A vintage World War II bomber is flying over the Home of Heroes this week, and the public has a chance to ride it.

The historic B-25 will be at the Pueblo Memorial Airport until Sunday. Individual ticket prices range from $395 to $650, for the back and front of the bomber, respectively.

The aircraft was built in 1943 in Kansas City. The next year, it became the latest military tool deployed toward the end of World War II. It completed 15 missions, spanning from Italy to Yugoslavia where it dropped bombs over railroads, switchyards and bridges.

Pilot Jerry Briggs has been flying the bomber the past five years as it makes tours across the country to give veterans, and the public, a chance to see it and ride it.

“It’s just such an honor where this came from,” Briggs said. “It was an actual part of World War II and we get to be part of it.”

It’s no easy feat getting the bomber off the ground. At a gross weight of 41,800 pounds, pilots said it’s more difficult to maneuver than a commercial jet.

“This one’s a lot more difficult to taxi. The brakes are very sensitive. It’s harder on the ground than it is in the air,” Briggs said.

The Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum will also offer free admission into the museum Saturday and Sunday.
