today marks the 80th anniversary of what is called the worst flood in colorado springs history. it was the monument creek flood of 1935. it came on memorial day that year … it was the city’s wettest may on record that same year… at least until that record was broken this month. 18 people died in the disaster. “Only a third of the rain had dropped prior to Memorial Day, as best as i can tell from the newspapers.
