Thousands show up for safety festival

Emergency crews and nonprofit organizations want people safe and active this summer and a giant festival was staged at the park to help make that happen.

Thousands of people crammed Pueblo City Park Saturday for the third annual American Medical Response Safety Jam.

More than 40 emergency crews and nonprofits showed people how to play it safe in the warmer months.

AMR said it sees an increase in bike-related injuries during the summer so during the event hundreds of helmets were given away to keep people safe.

Jose Herrera said this event is a good reminder for his son.

“They teach the kids about safety. It’s something that my son practices all the time. He has hurt himself a couple times but without the safety gear it could have been much worse,” he said.

Bikes and skateboards were given away and there also was a free concert.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 anchor James Jarman was there to host the event.
